PDBR Sunsets and Physical Disability Board of Review Operations to Branches

Injured personnel deserve the best representation.  It should be zealous and those still serving in the military, or seeking redress for neglect post-military service, should demand excellence.  The Board of Corrections for injured military is the responsibility of the branch where you last served.

We have well over 100 years of military experience with Reserve and Active Components, Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard cases and we love serving injured personnel in military disability processing or concerned about it.  2026 began our 13th year of CitizenSoldierLaw and our founder, Thomas Roughneen, Esq., a retired Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel served in the USAR and mobilized many times, including to Iraq, Germany and finally as a JAG adjudicator at the Capital Region Physical Evaluation Board. He and his PEB supervisor, retired Colonel Peter Vanderland, have continued their service in retirement together here at our law firm. Thomas went through IDES in 2012, underwent shoulder surgery and went back to Army service.

As it relates to PDBR, in a memorandum dated July 9th, 2024, the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD-P&R) announced that the PDBR had completed its mission and matters pending there would migrate to the appropriate branch of the applicant’s relevant branch of service.

After your or a loved one’s discharge, you can still achieve justice but these are difficult claims. In 2025, we sought and received redress for a Vietnam veteran and the AF awarded Chapter 61 military disability at 50% with retroactive pay back to the 1970s.   If military service caused you to become physically or mentally unfit, and you have evidence, you might be able to seek your pension and Tricare for life also.

These are tough claims and expect a minimum amount of fees at $5,000.00.  Compared to a lifetime pension, permanent disability retirement (PDR) and Tricare, though, that is a negligible fee.

If your processing through TDRL, get trusted legal counsel. We have seen many members who regret returning to duty.

What we have written is not legal advice.  We hope that you have found this helpful.

We wish you every success.
