Corey D. Bean, Esq., is an experienced Naval JAG officer and military veteran advocate who focuses on representing active duty, Reserve, and National Guard service members, including US Public Health Service (USPHS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He has proven his mettle in civilian private practice while a Navy Reservist and also while in uniform.
His years in uniform, underway and otherwise, in a range of complicated cases makes him an incredibly valuable attorney to our staff and our clients. Whether misconduct matters, or Disability Evaluation System (DES) proceedings, Corey’s ability covers the range of administrative boards such as, separation boards, Flight Evaluation Boards for pilots, Field Naval Aviator Evaluation Boards (FNAEB), Field Flight Performance Boards (FFPBs) and Flight Status Selection Boards (FSSBs).
He has a wealth of experience with Discharge Review Boards (DRB) and Board of Correction for Military Records for all services (AFBCMR, ABCMR and CGBCMR) and with the Navy and Marines (BCNR). Drawing on more than 14 years of service as a Navy Judge Advocate, he brings deep practical knowledge of the medical evaluation board (MEB), physical evaluation board (PEB), and related fitness-for-duty processes, as well as the full range of administrative separation and show-cause boards that can affect a service member’s career and benefits.

(Reserve and Guard Line of Duty Investigations – LOD). Mr. Bean’s DES experience includes serving as Disability Evaluation System Counsel with the Office of the Judge Advocate and later representing clients in private practice, where he successfully appealed adverse medical board decisions and secured Combat-Related Special Compensation for service-connected conditions. He has also represented officers and enlisted members in Boards of Inquiry and administrative separation hearings, obtaining favorable results that preserved careers and benefits in the majority of cases he handled.
In addition to his DES and administrative board work, Mr. Bean has extensive trial and personnel law experience. He has served as both trial counsel and defense counsel in general and special courts-martial, acted as a preliminary hearing officer, and represented the government and individual service members in complex personnel matters before the EEOC and Merit Systems Protection Board. His assignments have taken him from CONUS commands to overseas billets in Japan, Bahrain, Djibouti, and Afghanistan, giving him a broad understanding of the operational and administrative environments in which today’s service members operate.
Mr. Bean earned his J.D. cum laude from George Mason University School of Law and his B.A. in Philosophy from Davidson College. He is a member of the Maryland Bar. His military awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, four Navy Commendation Medals, and two Navy Achievement Medals.
Most importantly, Corey is a dedicated son to his parents and his Dad is a retired Army Dental Corps Officer. Impressively, Corey is an accomplished and competitive swimmer with impressive times.
